This was my entry in a jewelry-making contest by Fire Mountain Gems, one of the largest jewelry suppliers in the country. I wanted to showcase all of the colors of crystal beads offered by Swarovski; this is not only the spectrum of color, but also from dark, medium to light in the range of colors. The name came about especially because of the phrase '...to pass with flying colors'. In days of sailing ships, when a fleet was victorious at sea, they would sail into port with flags flying from all the masts - "flying colors". And, I had hoped for victory! This necklace is substantial, but is very light on the neck; it is designed to rest on the sternum, so very little weight is felt around your neck. Oh, yes....it's VERY sparkly! FINALIST in the Seed Bead Division of the Fire Mountain Gems and Beads 2010 Jewelry Making Contest. This was my first entry in a contest, and I'm thrilled to be a Finalist! This design incorporates rose quartz, turquoise, paua shell and rhododendrite cabochons with intricate seed bead embroidery. I chose rose quartz and the heart motif, because rose quartz is considered to be the gemstone of healing and of love; this represents welcoming love of a healed heart.
